VUME 2008 in Paris and Madrid
Our 2008 Edition of ILOG Visualization User Meeting (VUME) in Paris was great, in a luxurious Hotel near Champs-Elysées, two steps from the Ladurée shop where some of the guys tried to buy some of the best macaroons in France. It was a first for me to be filmed during my presentations (but I learned later that only the screen was recorded).
The day began with a really interesting debate by a between Microsoft and Adobe presenters, where we could see side by side the RIA contenders: Silverlight and Flex.

We gave some talks on AJAX technology, Graph Layout and Performance in JViews and had excellent discussions with customers, seeing what they did with our products and getting first hand opinions on their expectations for the future.

The VUME in Madrid was even better - with almost twice the number of attendees than we expected. The weather was sunny and warm, and we were able to have a few “cerveza” and “tapas” on a nice piazza near the Hotel. |
The opening talk of that day was a on an interesting project a customer did to supervise the country commercial airplane and airport operations. Another customer was there to explain how he was able to simplify his multi-tier architecture thanks to Gantt.NET product.
We did more or less the same presentations than in France; however, we had to fall back to English as we were not able to find enough Spanish speakers in the development team for all the presentations. This might have been a problem for some of the attendees, but 95% of the audience stayed until the last presentation.
