Opening Keynote - Pierre Haren

Monday, February 25th, 2008

ILOG’s Chairman and CEO Pierre Haren welcomed everyone to DIALOG with a fast-paced overview of ILOG solutions and how they are helping our customers around the world (many of whom who are represented in the packed auditorium this morning).

Pierre Haren Keynote

Pierre started by thanking our customers. ILOG only exists, he said, because our customers have trusted ILOG with their strategic issues, their core applications (and their money of course). He also mentioned how many of our customers are thankful to ILOG for solutions that have helped them adapt to tough market conditions. In many cases, these companies would no longer exist themselves if it were not for ILOG.

Pierre is proud of the core values behind ILOG’s success: technology excellence, integrity, dedication to our customers, commtiment to our employee’s sucess.

ILOG helps organizations tackle change and make better decisions faster with three core technologies: BRMS, Optimization and Visualization.

  • ILOG’s advanced graphics can convey the exact sense of data to users (Adobe began selling ILOG’s Elixir add-on for the Adobe Flex platform today).
  • ILOG is working to make its BRMS system more pervasive and accessible by providing business users with front ends in Excel, Word and the Web browser.
  • Many of ILOG’s customers are faced with situations that cannot simply be modeled with a step by step sequence of business rules because of the many potential alternatives available at any given step. ILOG’s ODM optimization framework allows users to create applications that can identify potential optimal solutions by adjusting the parameters and constraints of the system and thereby introduce change into their existing processes.

One particularly hot area is supply chain management - an area where ILOG is having increasing impact. ILOG will soon be announcing a green add-on for the Logic Tools product line that will use the same technology to identify ways to not only reduce costs but reduce carbon emissions.

Pierre gave three examples of companies that are benefitting from ILOG solutions:

  • IBM’s Fishkill semi-conductor production plant is one of the best examples of how all of ILOG’s technologies can come together to make significant improvements in one of the most advanced manufacturing operations in the world. Thanks to ILOG’s optimization, business rules and visualization technology, the Fishkill plant now hums through the day instead of hiccuping.
  • ILOG technology helped the world’s busiest container harbor by helping them to track and optimize their container handling processes better than anyone else. Most of the intelligence of their yard management system is driven by ILOG products. SPA, the Singapore Port Authority has been able to grow into the world’s largest trans-shipment harbor because they are able to place containers in their yard in higher stacks than other yards and yet still access them easily based on the scheduled berthing sequence of ships, while simultaneously dealing with unexpected short-term delays and schedule changes. This allows PSA to concentrate on customer service, and when combined with their operational excellence, PSA has a winning solution, thanks largely to ILOG.
  • USAA came out number 1 this week in Business Week’s “Customer Service Elite” survey. USAA is an ILOG customer. Coincidence?

Pierre is proud that ILOG is helping so many customers become world leaders in their field, and that ILOG’s optimization, business rules, visualization, and particulary ILOG’s green supply chain management solutions, are also helping to make the world a better place.

ILOG celebrated its 20 year anniversary last year and 10 years of Nasdaq listings. He’s very excited about what the next 20 years will bring.

Work and play on day one of DIALOG

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

It was a long first day, but apart from a few lingering travel issues for some, everything seems to have got underway smoothly.

I had the pleasure of meeting with several speakers at this evening’s welcome cocktail and everyone is really excited to be participating in this groundbreaking event and looking forward to the next two days of sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

Today was hard work for the DIALOG conference team, with lots of last minute preparations to complete and a few unexpected issues to deal with. I was very impressed with how everyone came together to resolve those issues and am proud to be part of such a great team of professionals.

There was still time for a bit of relaxation out on the golf course though (for some at least), made all the more pleasureable by the warm sunny Palm Springs weather. Below, in pictures, is a summary of this first day of DIALOG 08…

ILOG CEO shares some best practices

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

ILOG CEO, Pierre HarenDIALOG is all about sharing industry breakthroughs and best practices. ILOG CEO Pierre Haren got in on the conversation early when he gave an interview and took phone-in questions on KLIV radio’s “The CEO Show” last Friday night.

In this show, Carl Guardino, CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG), interviews prestigious CEOs who drive significant change in Silicon Valley. Previous guests on the show include Synopsys CEO Aart de Geus, Palm CEO Ed Colligan, Seagate CEO Bill Watkins, Sun Power CEO Tom Werner, and a slew of HP executives.

The interview makes for fascinating listening and covers subjects ranging from world politics to global warming, as well as Pierre’s love for paragliding!
